State of the Jamstack Survey Results
This year we surveyed over 3,000 web developers, both Netlify users and not, both Jamstack fans and not, about how they build sites in 2020. We gained a ton of insight into how Jamstack developers think about themselves and the tools they use, and we want to share them with the community.

The COVID Tracking Project: 0 to 2M API Requests in 3 Months
On March 4, 2020, we started a couple of spreadsheets to collect COVID-19 data—just until the CDC stepped up. Three months, two websites, and two million API requests later, we're still doing it every day—and our data used by nearly every major newsroom in the world, dozens of disease-modeling and research projects, and several divisions of the US government.

Managing Diabetes with Jamstack
Jamstack is often considered a great solution for blogs and portfolios. But the fact is, we can do so much more. We can actually use Jamstack to develop feature rich apps! In this talk I will discuss how I created an open source Jamstack application that's designed to help diabetics manage blood sugars. We'll look at some of the services I used and how Serverless functions helped me deliver powerful functionality without a single web server in sight! This talk is based on an article I posted on dev.to earlier this year - https://dev.to/jamieendeavour/managing-diabetes-with-jamstack-the-idea-2gi3. The post is about an idea I had to develop a web application that diabetics can deploy easily and use to assist with their treatment. My talk will show the audience that Jamstack is more than a way of developing “static websites”. I want the audience to see what they can achieve with a combination of services and tooling from the Jamstack ecosystem. I hope that my talk inspires the audience to go away and use some of these services/tools for their own ideas.

Selling tickets without servers. Or frameworks. Or cookies.
When your ticketing platform and payment provider can't keep up with the demand for your event, you have a problem. A nice problem to have, but a problem nonetheless. JAMstack/serverless to the rescue! This talk showcases the custom serverless ticketshop I created for an event that sold out in seconds. By connecting serverless staples like Amazon API Gateway, Lambda functions, Cloudflare and Netlify (and a few you may not have heard of, yet) a ticketshop was built to handle thousands of requests per second, selling hundreds of tickets per minute but dealing with zero servers. And zero frameworks. And even zero cookies.

With this talk I would like to demonstrate that even "complex", multi-step e-commerce workflows, like for an event ticketshop, can be built using readily available platforms and services.

Workshop: Great Authoring Experience for Static Sites
Deep dive into making your React, Vue or Angular apps fully editable and easy to manage for your content and marketing teams.

Configure a content-type in your headless CMS, turn your content authors loose on it, then grab the array from the endpoint, render the list in your app, and add a detail view. Mission accomplished, right? For some projects, yes. But for other projects, the content and marketing teams need to do more, and ideally they don't need to always come back and pester you for changes every Monday morning.

In this workshop you will learn the very cool new approach that many CMS have launched in the last year. Frontend components and visual CMS components are bound in an elegant way, such that non-technical content authors can literally build up frontend apps, component by component, in a visual WYSIWYG environment. This means you can go fully headless, yet still give your marketing team the tools and creative control they need. It's both an interesting frontend technology and a much requested feature. This workshop covers a general topic and is appropriate for users of any frontend framework, SSG and CMS. As a practical example we'll use React, Gatsby & Magnolia.

Requirements: Familiarity with the command line. Node version 10.15+ and npm 6.4+ installed.

Check out the video overview!

Workshop: Angular in the Jamstack
The Jamstack is a modern architecture that helps you create secure, dynamic sites faster. It uses JavaScript, APIs and prerendered Markup, served without web servers. Using Angular on the Jamstack is a “ripe” concept that’s taking off fast. In this workshop we’ll cover the core concepts and benefits of the JAMstack, so you can confidently tell your co-workers, “I know exactly what the JAMstack is!” Then we’ll jump into coding our individual Jamstack sites using Angular. We’ll cover how to handle search, forms, data, serverless functions, and more, all through coding out an application deployed with CI/CD for you to show off to friends & family. Hope to code with you soon!

Workshop: Predictable Performance
More and more, organizations understand that performance is a critical factor in the reach and overall effectiveness of their online experiences. But where to start? It can be challenging to weed through the myriad of advice and "best practices" floating around to find the improvements that will actually benefit you and the people using your site. All too often, teams spend large amounts of time applying optimizations only to find that they're unable to show meaningful improvements after the fact.

In this workshop, we'll walk through the process of analyzing a sites performance to find meaningful improvements. We'll start with understanding the key components of the page lifecycle and which metrics we can use to measure them. Then, we'll use those metrics as our starting point to identify exactly which bottlenecks may slow them down, and the patterns to look for. In the end, we'll walk away with a process for ensuring that the optimizations we make result in meaningful improvements to our sites performance and, more importantly, to the user experience.

Workshop: Build your own live streaming platform with the Jamstack
In this workshop by Phil and Dylan you will learn how to build your own live streaming platform (think of products like: Twitch, Youtube Live, Facebook Live). No video experience is required, we’ll use the Jamstack for the frontend and Mux.com for the live streaming APIs. You will also learn the basics of video streaming technologies like HLS and RTMP.

Some Jamstack experience is required. You should be able to run a Jamstack project like Gatsby or NextJS in a development environment you are comfortable with and you should have some experience working with React components.

Workshop: React Hooks and Reusable Components
In this React workshop, Cassidy will start by teaching you the fundamentals of hooks-based React, and then dive deep into building reusable components. By the end of the day you’ll be able to build a React app from the ground up with ease and deploy it live.

This workshop is for developers who haven't had experience building a production React application yet, who haven't used React hooks before, or who are decent at JavaScript (or another JS framework) but want a deeper understanding of React. Overall, it's a good introduction or refresher! We'll have a combination of lectures and exercises with which you can follow along, and by the end of this workshop, you'll understand what you'll need to know to build modern React components and applications, and how to bundle and deploy them.
